Nairobi fly. Nairobi Moscow in Zanzibar continues to give problems

In Zanzibar it rains much more this year; attention to the Moscow Moscow

This insect causes paederus dermatitis, a skin irritation resulting from contact with the scarab crushed on the skin.

The beetle beetle is commonly found in wetlands, with high prevalence during the rainy season.

It is attracted by light, especially fluorescent, in this period is present in Zanzibar.

The Nairobi Moscow is about 1 centimeter long, about twice a mosquito.
They rarely fly, but they move quickly. When threatened or disturbed, the abdomen is they and they look like a scorpion ready to hit, even if they don't sting or bite.

Clinical Characteristics of dermatitis from paederus;

The areas commonly affected are the neck, the arms and the face. You may not manifest any symptom for the first 12-24 hours, but later will arrive burning and intense itching in the interested area.

Two or three days after contact with the scarab, the area can be swelling and swelling and small blisters can appear, which can progress in order to look like bubbles.

For areas around the joints, where the Nairobi Moscow could have been crushed, injuries may appear, called "Bacianti" injuries.

Later, blisters will explode and join to appear like a burn. Indeed, many patients notice injuries only when the interested area starts to look like a burn. Additional scabs and scabs may occur, but most symptoms are solved in two or three weeks.

Occasionally, the areas affected by the Nairobi Moscow can develop a secondary bacterial infection and this may seem a skin infection. Also, the interested area can develop dark spots.

A condition known as the eye of Nairobi will occur when you get in touch with the scarab of the beetle (body fluid or blood), when you squeeze it against the skin. Their body fluid contains a toxin known as paederin, which is presumed to be more toxic than the venom of a cobra.

Touching the eyes with the hands that came in contact with the toxins of the Nairobi Moscow can lead to swelling of the eye, redness or further complications.

Paederus dermatitis can be confused with herpes zoster, liquid burns, acute allergic reactions, centipede dermatitis and contact dermatitis. The season, the presence of the Nairobi Moscow or the identification of the Moscow on the skin can help in the diagnosis.

Treatment

Once you have come to contact with the Moscow, or if you press the fly against the skin, wash your hands and the area interested with water and soap immediately. Apply a light layer of cream cream and where there is the probability of bacterial hyperinfection, apply an antibiotic ointment. Oral antihistamines reduce itching that causes scratches.

Prevention

It is important to avoid contact with the Nairobi Moscow in the first place because the resulting dermatitis can cause undue discomfort and, in some cases it can leave scars;
To do this do not open the doors and windows. Sleeping under a mosquito net. Use air conditioning if it's possible. If you see an insect walking on your skin, blow away instead of getting away. This reduces the risk of crushing. You can also use a piece of paper to remove it from the skin. If you have to get one, avoid touching your eyes. Wash your hands and area with water and soap immediately. Control the areas of the scarab around the beds and ceilings before going to bed. Eliminating excess vegetation from and around houses.

I only add if we are at the sea I would avoid fluorescent costumes that attract these insects especially. And if we inadvertently crushed or scratched on the skin one, we can always jump into the sea. The important thing is that this liquid takes off as quickly as possible from the skin.
It's been about a month that this bug has arrived in Zanzibar and has done a lot of damage.
